CAPSES: California Association of Private Special Education Schools
CAPSES primary mission is to maximize the potential of individuals with disabilities by advocating for them in public policy, and promoting high quality instruction, guidance, therapy and staff development. CAPSES is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the leadership role of the private sector in offering alternative quality services to individuals with disabilities. By providing the highest quality instruction, therapy and guidance and advocacy to their clients, CAPSES members strive to help special education students maximize their potential and lead independent and dignified lives. We are able to build that potential by working together to ensure appropriate services to all eligible students and their families.
Arbor Bay School
For more than 12 years, Arbor Bay School has increased opportunities for children in Pre-K-8th grade with mild to moderate learning differences to achieve academic and social success. We achieve this through highly individualized and specialized instruction by credentialed Special Education teachers, combined with speech and occupational therapy, in a small classroom environment. Arbor Bay School’s solid history is defined by the students who have excelled due to this results-driven methodology.
PACE: Pacific Autism Center for Education
PACE was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned parents and educators as a private, nonprofit 501 (C) (3) organization to meet the critical need of providing education and care for children and adults with autism/developmental disabilities and their families. Prior to this time, many of our students had been placed in inappropriate classroom settings and many of our residential clients were housed in unsuitable state hospitals and development centers. The state system was clearly challenged to provide more than maintenance of the ongoing needs of persons with developmental disabilities. Without the support of an encouraging, attentive environment, the ability to develop the skills necessary for achieving integration into the community was doubtful.
